Raising more than $18,000 fromĀ  258 individual donors and 12 business and organizational sponsors, Got Green’s first, signature fundraising event, the Green-A-Thon beat all the goals set by the volunteer organizing committee. We demonstrated that in the face of a difficult economic climate, good old fashioned person-to-person networking one of our most powerful tools for funding grassroots organizations!

On a drizzly, dreary Saturday morning, more than 70 people gathered at the Rainier Beach Presbyterian Church to receive training in door-to-door outreach techniques and get briefed on Got Green’s two organizing campaigns: Access to Healthy Foods; and Targeted Local Hiring. When they hit the streets in our visual GOT GREEN? t’s, the Green-A-Thon participants were a multi-racial, multi-generational army that delivered messages of hope and the power of organizing, along with more than 1,700 energy efficient CFL lightbulbs to 350 Rainier Beach and Skyway households.

Thank you to all who supported, donated to, and participated in making the first ANNUAL Green-A-Thon a raging success.
